89-year-old Dorothy Dumyahn died Sunday before her Caton Farm Road home was set on fire, officials said.
An 89-year-old woman found early Sunday in her burning Caton Farm Road home was murdered, Crest Hill police said Monday. Deputy Chief Ed Clark said the death of Dorothy Dumyahn is being investigated as a homicide. READ: 89-YEAR-OLD WOMAN DIES IN CREST HILL FIRE Clark was tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding Dumyahn’s death, but Chief Dwayne Wilkerson said it appears the elderly woman was murdered, and the fire was set to conceal the crime, according to the Herald-News. Clark declined to discuss the elderly woman’s cause of death. “I can’t really elaborate on that for investigative purposes,” he said, adding he also could not discuss whether a suspect has been identified in the case. Police are interviewing witnesses, and do not…

Two were shot Tuesday night and one is dead—so far.
A double shooting on Second Avenue has left at least one dead in the city's second gun attack in as many days. Joliet police Detectives were heading over to the death scene on Second Avenue shortly before 8:30 p.m. A police source confirmed one was dead. Just over 24 hours earlier, 18-year-old Tevin Bridges was gunned down in the Lois Place apartments. A Lois Place resident, Darrel Perkins, 53, was arrested and charged with Bridges' murder. Witnesses said Bridges wanted to buy loose cigarettes from Perkins but advanced at him with balled fists when he heard the price was $1 for two smokes. DON'T MISS THE LATEST JOLIET NEWS. The Will County Sheriff's Department is investigating a homicide in Troy Township, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The Will County Sheriff's Department captured and questioned a man in connection with a Sunday beating death outside Shorewood, reported the Chicago Tribune. "Dead is a 69-year-old man who is believed to have been a longtime employee at Knauer’s Wilbert Vault, Inc., 19515 North East Frontage Rd., in Will County near Shorewood, said Will County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas," the Tribune story said. "The victim, who has not yet been identified, died in the business after police were called just before 9 a.m. following a report of a fight in progress, Kaupas said." Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan sided on the public's right to know in a similar appeal.
If the attorney general’s recent ruling on a Freedom of Information Act appeal is any indication, the Shorewood Police may not get the answer they are hoping for. The sister of a missing St. Charles man, Stephanie McNeil, won her appeal against the DuPage County Sheriff’s Department. She claimed that Sheriff Zaruba failed to reveal public information about the case. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan agreed, ruling that the sheriff's office should turn over the documents. That case involved the disappearance of John Spira who was 45 when he vanished in February 2007. In a parallel situation, the Shorewood Police have denied the public’s right to know details about the murder of David Wolfson in 1987. Patch requested the police report …

OK, there weren't really any homicides in Shorewood this week. At least that we know of. Maybe the cops are still working on the report.
A Wilmington woman riding in a car the cops stopped for an undisclosed "equipment violation" was caught carrying drugs and a needle, police said. Kayla Stricklin, 18, of 602 Van Buren St. was nabbed during a 7 p.m. traffic stop near the intersection of Interstate 55 and Seil Road. Stricklin was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of drug equipment. The cops transported her to the county jail, where she remains in custody. The police did not reveal what sort of controlled substance Stricklin supposedly possessed. A local man wanted on a drug charge in Cook County apparently caught the cops' attention during a domestic dispute, according to police. John Peretti, 21, of 1920 …
