Cleaning up the debris from a flatbed truck that lost its load of metal coils is taking some time, the Illinois State Police said.
A flatbed semi-tractor truck that lost its load of six coiled metal rolls on Interstate 80, near Minooka, has one lane of traffic on each side closed as workers try to clean up the debris, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Bill Fuentes said. The accident occurred at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday in the westbound lane near Ridge Road, Fuentes said. No other vehicles were involved but cleanup is taking some time because the coils have to be cut into small pieces in order to be removed, he said. As a result, traffic on both sides of I-80 is jammed, he said. Some motorists were exiting I-80 and using Illinois Route 52 (Jefferson Street) as an alternate. As a result, traffic was snarled on Route 52 from Houbolt Road on Joliet West's side through all …

Black ice was to blame for accidents up and down Interstate 55 and Interstate 80 and on area roads.
Black ice on interstates and local roads caused spinouts and fender-benders Monday night, but no serious injuries, according to the Illinois State Police. "It started about 5:30 p.m.," District 5 Master Sgt. Jeff Padilla said. "We had a bunch." Black ice is a thin, usually clear sheet of ice that is often invisible to drivers. Because it is invisible, drivers cannot adjust speed or incorporate other driving techniques to stay safe on the road. Monday was the first time this area has had snow or ice in these temperatures. In fact, had the area not seen snow on Monday, it would have tied an all-time state record. The accidents spanned the area, with crashes along Interstate 55, Interstate 80 and Interstate 57 as well as local roads. There …

Construction on the interchange that will create an exit to Interstate 80 between Ridge Road and Route 47 continues on schedule.
The Brisban Road Interchange project is the result of an intergovernmental agreement between three entities - Channahon, Morris and Grundy County. Eventually the area will be an interchange with traffic signals located along Route 6. "By the end of the summer, they are hoping to have the ramps done," Channahon Village Manage Joe Pena said. Currently, traffic patterns along both Interstate 80 and Route 6 include lane shifts. When completed, the area will be targeted for development by the village of Channahon. "We're certainly going to be out looking to bring some business there," Pena said.
