Blame it on Brodsky: Court Supervision

Joel Brodsky bearing the brunt of the blown Drew Peterson murder defense in a Thursday filing was one of many interesting things going on at the Joliet courthouse this past week.

When a jury finds you guilty of killing your wife, it's safe to say you might have some image problems. But in the aftermath of the Drew Peterson murder trial, defense attorney Joel Brodsky may be looking worse than anyone. First there was his very public feud with co-counsel Steve Greenberg. Then Brodsky voluntarily withdrew (or was he discharged?) from the Peterson defense team. And once he was gone, the five lawyers still representing Peterson blamed Brodsky for blowing the case and pointed out that entering into a publicity contract with a suspected wife-killer could be viewed as unsound legal strategy. And then on Thursday, Greenberg got his latest last word in with a devastating, 32-page court filing that paints Brodsky as a a …

Joliet Lawyer Cultivating Celebrity Clientele

When the stars need legal help in Will County, they seem to head for the same lawyer.

One caused a scene in a courtroom, the other woke up in a cornfield. One of them cursed out two-sport star Neon Deion Sanders, the other one cursed out four-woman marrier Drew Peterson. They’re both Hall-of-Famers, they have legal trouble in Will County, and they're each looking to the same man—Stephen White, Joliet’s lawyer-to-the-stars—to get him out of a jam. White, a retired Will County judge now in private practice, represents both Cooperstown catcher Carlton Fisk, up on a drunken driving charge, and T-bone tycoon Jeff Ruby, who has a contempt of court case going in Joliet. White, an Army veteran, downplayed his involvement in the two cases. But he has two bonafide stars among his clients, and true celebrities don’t often find …

Drew Peterson Murder Trial F-Bomb Dropper Still on Hook in J-Town

Cincinnati restaurateur Jeff Ruby's contempt case for mouthing an expletive at wife-murderer Drew Peterson was postponed.

Cincinnati steak man Jeff Ruby finally had his day in court Friday, and he'll have another one next month too. Ruby, the man behind the Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment chain of steak restaurants, is up on a contempt of court charge for telling off Drew Peterson  during the wife-killer's murder trial. Ruby, 64, said Peterson was glaring at him during a break in the trial, so he locked eyes with the murderer and mouthed, "F--- you." Not 12 hours later, a warrant was issued for Ruby's arrest and a pair of plainclothes sheriff's deputies apprehended him in the lobby of Harrah's Casino hotel. A source said the cops laid a trap for Ruby, having the hotel staff change the lock on his door so his keycard would not work, then capturing him when he…

County Board Member Calls Out Drew Peterson Prosecutor

County Board Member Kathleen Konicki sent an email to the chief judge complaining about the state's attorney's conduct during the Drew Peterson trial.

Lame duck Will County Board member Kathleen Konicki took a shot at top prosecutor James Glasgow for supposedly praising a Cincinnati tycoon jailed for muttering an obscenity at wife-killer Drew Peterson. Konicki accused Glasgow of lauding Cincinnati restaurateur Jeff Ruby in a courthouse hallway a week after Ruby was arrested and briefly jailed on a contempt of court charge. "Mr. Ruby is feted as a folk hero," Konicki, a Homer Glen Republican, wrote in an email to Chief Judge Gerald Kinney. "To understand his status, it may be helpful to take into consideration the hallway conversations of officers of the court." Konicki referenced one hallway conversation in particular. She claimed it occurred Aug. 30 and she quoted Glasgow as saying, "I …

Ruby to Drew: F-You—Cops to Ruby: Go to Jail—Update! Again!

The county cops collared Cincinnati restaurateur Jeff Ruby at his Harrah's hotel room Thursday night, a source said.

Thursday morning, restaurant tycoon Jeff Ruby told accused wife-killer Drew Peterson, "F--- you!" Not 12 hours later, the county cops visited Ruby where he is staying Harrah's Casino hotel and carted him off on a criminal charge. A source said two plainclothes county cops picked up Ruby around 10 p.m. Will County Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas, the sheriff's department spokesman, confirmed that detectives arrested Ruby on a charge of direct criminal contempt. Ruby was later released on his own recognizance. Ruby was already tweeting about his arrest late Thursday. "Just got out of Will Ctny jail Same place DP is Asked if I could share cell with him 4 just a minute Arrested in lobby at Harrahs Joliet," he wrote. Ruby—whose brother-in-law was a …
