Hilltoppers take on powerhouse Montini in Class 5A semifinal matchup.
To get back to Champaign, Joliet Catholic Academy's football team will go back to the drawing board against a familar foe. JCA (8-4) takes on Lombard Montini (10-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday in a Class 5A semifinal game at Memorial Stadium in Joliet. When the two last met, Montini came out the winner, 70-45, in a shootout for the 5A state title last November. JCA's Ty Isaac rushed for 515 yards and scored six touchdowns—but it was all for naught. Isaac's status for Saturday's rematch is uncertain. He aggravated a groin injury in JCA's 21-20 overtime victory over Lincoln-Way West. Montini advanced with a 42-27 victory over Woodstock Marian Central. The winner moves on to play in the Class 5A state championship game at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24…

The slipper will fall off one of the Cinderella stories here. Joliet Catholic Academy and Tinley Park qualified for the Class 5A football playoffs after posting 5-4 records during the regular season. The two scored first-round victories despite being dealt double-digit seeds under the IHSA's formula for drawing up the postseason pairings. And, now, here they are ready to square off in Round 2—a 13-seed (Tinley Park) vs. a 12-seed (Joliet Catholc Academy). One will move on. The other will go home. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Joliet's Memorial Stadium. JCA called on a powerful running game headed by Ty Isaac, Tyler Reitz and Michael Ivolow and staunch defense to overpower Elmwood Park 58-0. Tinley Park defeated Westinghouse 27-23, …

JCA travels to Elmwood Park Saturday. Catch the game live here on Patch at 6 p.m.
After suffering two straight losses to finish the regular season, Joliet Catholic Academy’s football team looks forward to collectively turning the page and starting anew in the postseason. The Hilltoppers (5-4) play at Elmwood Park (7-2) at 6 pm. Saturday in the opening round of the Class 5A playoffs. And they’ll look to play with an anything-is-possible mindset that they’ve gleaned from being battled-tested by the likes of Marist, Benet Academy and Providence Catholic. JCA has on its side one the state’s most electrifying runners—senior Ty Isaac. The USC recruit can be a difference-maker if he is healthy. He has struggled to shrug off shoulder and groin injuries up to now. If he’s good to go, then JCA could be good to go—all the way back…

Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger, the Joliet native whose experience playing football at the University of Notre Dame inspired the movie Rudy, will speak and sign autographs next week at Joliet Catholic Academy. The free public event, set for 7 p.m. Sept. 25 in the JCA gym, will center around Ruettiger's new book Rudy: My Story, which went on sale earlier this month. Despite being just 5-foot-6 and 165 pounds, Ruetigger's early goal had been to play football for the University of Notre Dame's Fighting Irish. Jeremy Hylka, who founded Joliet Weather Center, gives back to the community whenever he can.
Jeremy Hylka is the kind of person who lives his faith. A theology teacher at Joliet Catholic Academy and a youth minister at St. Paul the Apostle, everything Hylka does in his life becomes a lesson in faith. "Everywhere I go, it’s all interlocked," the Joliet area resident said. "There’s always a tie in to every aspect of what I do." But when you look at the pieces individually, they seem to not tie together. Hylka spends his time not in the classroom or in church in two primary ways - studying weather and volunteering for a military-related non-profit. Hylka founded Joliet Weather Center in 1990. Although it was under a different name then, the organization serves to alert people in the Joliet area to severe weather and allows Hylka to …
