Special Prosecutor Won't Prosecute Will County Board Member's Son

A special prosecutor brought in to try Will County Board member Steve Wilhelmi's son for battery dropped the case but is still going after two pals of the young man. The fathers of these two men are not on the county board.

When Will County Board member Steve Wilhelmi's son was first arrested for allegedly whipping a man with his belt, he only faced charges of misdemeanor battery and mob action. Then the mob action charge went away, and now he's charged with nothing. A special prosecutor called in to try Wilhelmi's 21-year-old son, Alex Wilhelmi of 1108 Taylor St., Joliet, dropped the case Thursday morning. But David Neal of the Special Prosecution Unit of the State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor's office is still going after the two men arrested along with Alex Wilhelmi on July 1. Daniel Duffy, 23, of 503 Wilcox St. faces a charge of battery and Manuel Borrego, 24, of 319 Hunter Ave. is up for both battery and drunken driving. Duffy and Borrego do not have…

Judge's Son on 2nd Heroin Case in 6 Years Can Get Out in 4 Months

The son of former Will County Chief Judge Rodney Lechwar was sentenced to eight years in prison but can do as little as four months, said the prosecutor who agreed to his plea deal.

When Will County Judge Rodney Lechwar's son Matthew was arrested for allegedly dealing heroin in 2006, the 24-year-old got his charge dropped by successfully completing a special drug court program. When he was again arrested on a heroin rap six years later, Matthew Lechwar took a plea deal brokered by his attorney and a special prosecutor that could see him sprung from prison in as little as four months. Matthew Lechwar's actual sentence was for eight years in prison, but at the request of his attorney, George Lenard, and special prosecutor Charles Colburn, Judge Edward Burmila recommended Matthew Lechwar as a candidate for the Department of Corrections' Impact Incarceration program. Burmila accepted Matthew Lechwar's plea and made his …

Matt was on my bowling team when we were little. I think the real tragedy here is not taking home the pee wee league trophy. I am also a witness to him smoking a cigarette before he was 18. Whatever happened to POGS?   more ›

Son of Former Chief Judge Jailed on Heavy Heroin Rap

The son of retired Chief Judge Rodney Lechwar was jailed on a heroin charge.

Undercover cops collared the son of former Chief Judge Rodney Lechwar and charged him with possession of heroin with plans to sell it. Matthew Lechwar, 29, of 23927 S. Navajo Drive in Channahon, was taken into custody March 30 by agents from the Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad. MANS agents also arrested 28-year-old Tonya Roe of 24639 S. Valley Drive in Channahon. She and Lechwar are both being held in the county jail on bonds of $150,000 each. On the same night that agents grabbed Lechwar and Roe, the MANS crew arrested Heather Brown, 23, of 304 Barr Elms Ave. in Joliet. Brown was charged with possession of a controlled substance. She was released from jail after posting a $500 bond. No one from MANS stepped up to answer questions about …

I saw Judge Lechwar do his job daily as a judge. While I hate Will County politics and see first hand several County Board members son's being protected and not held accountable, I can honestly say that Judge Lechwar tried to educate the teens about addiction in his court room. He was MUCH tougher than the current juvenile judge!!! He would visit treatment programs, the H.E.A.R.T. program in …   more ›
