Joel Brodsky bearing the brunt of the blown Drew Peterson murder defense in a Thursday filing was one of many interesting things going on at the Joliet courthouse this past week.
When a jury finds you guilty of killing your wife, it's safe to say you might have some image problems. But in the aftermath of the Drew Peterson murder trial, defense attorney Joel Brodsky may be looking worse than anyone. First there was his very public feud with co-counsel Steve Greenberg. Then Brodsky voluntarily withdrew (or was he discharged?) from the Peterson defense team. And once he was gone, the five lawyers still representing Peterson blamed Brodsky for blowing the case and pointed out that entering into a publicity contract with a suspected wife-killer could be viewed as unsound legal strategy. And then on Thursday, Greenberg got his latest last word in with a devastating, 32-page court filing that paints Brodsky as a a …

The mother of a Manhattan man killed in an August Frankfort Township wreck sued the New Lenox man who was driving.
The mother of a Manhattan man killed when the car he was riding in crashed and burst into flame has sued the New Lenox man who was driving. Kim Stevens, the mother of Jake Stevens, 22, of Manhattan, has petitioned to be named the administrator of her dead son's estate. She simultaneously filed a lawsuit going after the man who was driving when her son was killed. The suit accuses Kevin Krohn, 22, of speeding and failing to keep a proper lookout. It does not accuse Krohn of driving drunk, but he faces a felony charge of aggravated driving under the influence. Krohn is free on a $75,000 bond. A Joliet man was killed in a head-on collision near Manhattan.
A Joliet man was killed Sunday night when he ran his pickup truck head on into another pickup on Route 52 near Manhattan, police said. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:40 p.m. crash on Route 52 south of Delaney Road, according to a statement released by the Will County Coroner's Office. His wife reportedly was en route Monday from Mexico to Joliet to make the identification. The driver of the other pickup truck was injured in the crash, police said. He was…

Really? You still haven't gotten your taxes in?
You had an extra two days to get your taxes in, but did you? Well, if you didn't, the Washington Post gives you the good news and the bad news about being a rotten procrastinator. The bad news includes the fact that many post offices won't be staying open late tonight and that you stand a better than average chance of getting killed if you happen to be driving around, the story said. The good news is that you might find some free stuff if you look hard enough. But then you would still get that free stuff even if you filed your taxes a month ago. So there's really no good news at all. Isn't that always the way? As far as free stuff goes, this one isn't really free, but it might as well be: For only a penny you get a second Big Mac or …

The Herald-News reported that Joliet Township Supervisor Dan Vera fired an animal control officer who absconded with a Chihuahua in hopes of saving its life.
The Joliet Township Animal Control Officer offered the unpalatable choice of quitting or getting fired for absconding with a Chihuahua and refusing to return it for fear it would be killed lost his job today, the Herald-News reported. The officer, Bryan Jones, didn't even get to make a decision on quitting or getting fired, the story said. He asked township Supervisor Dan Vera for another day to get a hold of a lawyer, but Vera wasn't having any of that and pulled the trigger on his firing gun. But fired or not, Jones still has the Chihuahua, and the Herald-News story says that's what matters to him. “I’m terminated now,” Jones said in the story. “I just want to make sure nothing happens to (the dog). All I want to do is adopt this dog. …
