Yesterday was Labor Day. Hopefully you got to take a day off of the daily grind and relax a little bit. As you head back to work this week, though, we asked an expert – what can you do to work smarter and therefore get more done in less time? Beth Randall owns Joe Organizer, which is based in Plainfield, but has given presentations at the Joliet Library, Black Road Branch, the Shorewood-Troy Library and the Three Rivers Library. She offers a number of tips for staying organized during the work hours, whether you work in an office or in your home. “If you’re actually in an office, have set times during the day when you are going to check it, but don’t check it first thing in the morning,” Randall said. She suggested checking it an hour …
Happy Labor Day, from all of us at the Shorewood Patch.
It's Labor Day. We hope you're enjoying the day off, or the holiday pay if you have to work. And if you're out of a job or have one that doesn't compensate you at a premium rate for being there on a national holiday, then sorry. But for the lucky ones, this is arguably the greatest holiday of the year. The weather's usually pleasant, there are no religious obligations, you have a full-slate of baseball running from early afternoon until late at night, there are Labor Day sales if shopping is your thing, and it's all to honor the "contributions and achievements of American workers," says history.com. And how can you argue with that? We can't, and wouldn't want to if we could. What we do want is to enjoy our day off, and we want you to enjoy…

Let's look at last week.
It's time for the Shorewood Rewind. We usually enjoy writing the rewind. It gives us a chance to look back at all the great things that happened during the week and to take pleasure in what a great place Shorewood is. But we don't really feel like doing it today. Let's just get on with it. It was Labor Day. The Shorewood Patch showed off some of the hottest properties in Shorewood. Shorewood Patch columnist Erin Gallagher gave us her take on outfitting a 4-year-old girl with "boob and butt padding" in preparation for a beauty contest. The DuPage County Sheriff's Department failed to unravel the mystery of what befell missing St. Charles man John Spira. Then they failed to withhold information on the case from Spira's sister. The sister, …

The Rogues Gallery is a Labor of Love, but this is supposed to be a holiday.
We here at the Shorewood Patch work hard to bring you the best of everything, because that's what you deserve. But today is Labor Day, and we didn't feel much like laboring on it, so we went with another Locked Up Ladies Rogues Gallery. Now, it might be the easy way out, but it's also giving the people what they want, as the Locked Up Ladies are consistently among the most popular of all the various Rogues Galleries we give you. So here you go, and happy Labor Day.
