1 Man Dead in Car Versus Bicycle Crash in Minooka

A 43-year-old Minooka resident was pronounced dead at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center.

A car versus pedestrian crash on Ridge Road Monday night left one man dead. Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer said a single passenger vehicle was northbound on Ridge Road, just north of McEvilly Road, when it struck a 43-year-old, male Minooka resident. The man was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:16 p.m., Meyer said. Ridge Road was shut down between McEvilly Road and Twin Rails Drive while police investigated the accident. "Grundy County (Sheriff's Police) is assisting us with reconstruction of the accident," Meyer said. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was the only occupant. This idea that a sidewalk would have prevented this accident is wrongheaded. Sidewalks are not meant for bicycles. Sidewalks exist for pedestrians. Bike paths, while a nice amenity, are also no substitute for a properly constructed roadway in terms of safety. People need to learn that the bicycling is not just a recreational activity.
