The FBI and Illinois State Police have spent two days in Hammel Woods looking for Stacy Peterson while missing mom Linda Fellenbaum has been gone for more than two weeks.
While FBI agents and state troopers spent a second straight day scouring Hammel Woods for some sign of missing mom Stacy Peterson, there was no one to be found in a Joliet cul-de-sac just six miles away, the one where another mother was supposedly seen running off barefoot, never to be seen again. That mother, Linda Fellenbaum, 33, disappeared Oct. 21, leaving her cell phone, shoes and Toyota Camry at the home of the Joliet man she moved in with only two months before. Fellenbaum and her Joliet boyfriend, Donald Wolak, 40, had met on the Internet, police said, and their short relationship was made out to be a stormy one. For a second straight day, federal agents and Illinois State Police troopers combed through Hammel Woods in Shorewood, searching for a sign of missing mom Stacy Peterson. On Monday, a state police source confirmed troopers and FBI agents had launched a search for the vanished wife of disgraced former Bolingbrook cop Drew Peterson. FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde also said agents with the feds' Evidence Response Team were in the woods "working with ISP as part of an ongoing criminal investigation." The missing woman met with a man who says he responded to an ad she placed on Craigslist.
Missing mom Linda Fellenbaum rendezvoused with a stranger for a sex date in Naperville on the last day she was seen alive, a Chicago man revealed. "She had listed an ad saying she was a visitor to the city, that it was her last day in town," said the man, who asked not to be identified by name. The man said he and Fellenbaum, 33, connected through an ad on Craigslist and met about 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, "in a parking lot by a cash advance place." "She said she got a hotel on Priceline and had to put money on her credit card," the man said. An emergency hearing in the Drew Peterson murder case has been set for late Friday afternoon.
An emergency motion to "limit electronic communication" was filed Wednesday in the Drew Peterson murder case and will be argued during a hearing Friday. The motion was impounded and its contents are not available for the press or public to view. Charles B. Pelkie, the spokesman for State's Attorney James Glasgow's office, declined to comment on the text of the motion but did say it pertains to procedural matters. Peterson, a 58-year-old disgraced former Bolingbrook cop, faces charges he killed his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He is also the sole suspect in the investigation of the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, but faces no criminal charges in that matter. The Chicago Tribune reported today that Drew Peterson is dropping an appeal that he never made in the first place. "Drew Peterson drops appeal, says he's ready for trial to begin," blares the story's headline (which has since been changed. Now he's dropping a "battle." Can you drop a battle?). Except there's no appeal to drop. The story also said Peterson's lawyers sent a motion to the Third District Appellate Court in Ottawa in hopes of hurrying the case along by waiving a mandatory 35-day waiting period. Friends, family and supporters of John Spira sent up hundreds of balloons during a ceremony to honor the missing St. Charles man.
The hundreds of red balloons sent skyward by the friends and family of John Spira read "Justice For John." But the missing man's sister said they held another message for those that might have seen them floating above Winnetka Saturday afternoon. "Those who did this can't rest easy. We're coming after you," said Stephanie McNeil, Spira's sister and the organizer of the event outside New Trier West High School, from which both she and her brother graduated. "We're coming after you and John will have justice," McNeil said before she and dozens of relatives and friends released balloons into the air. It took years, but the sister of missing St. Charles man John Spira got another sign installed to raise awareness of her brother's case.
The first time Stephanie McNeil put up a sign for her missing brother, it didn't last through the weekend. The second sign she had installed didn't last much longer, and the third was taken down by forest preserve officials. Years passed and McNeil's brother John Spira, a popular St. Charles businessman and musician, remained missing. McNeil sometimes feared her brother would be forgotten. But today she gets the chance to remind the world that he has not been found and that whoever made him vanish has gone unpunished. "I'm totally ecstatic we've got (a sign) and the land owner agreed" to let it be posted on his property, McNeil said. Facebook has cast a massive dragnet for lost dog Ernie of Shorewood.
Ernie, a white and tawny English bulldog, is missing from his Shorewood home. But you may already know that. The 3-year-old, 45-pound dog ran out the front door of his home near the Del Webb neighborhood Saturday. And although his owners Bill Garland, 31, and Vicki “Vee” Glowczynski, 26, handed out fliers, searched on foot and called local animal agencies during the first 24 hours of Ernie’s wanderings, it wasn’t until their friends started posting pictures on Facebook that the search for this much-loved pup took off. After 16 years, the father of Rachel Mellon just wants to privately acknowledge the anniversary of his daughter's disappearance.
It's hard to admit your missing daughter's probably not coming back, that the ones who made her missing will likely never answer for it. But after a while, it's easier than telling yourself otherwise. "It just wraps my emotions up too much," Rachel Mellon's father, Jeff Skemp, said of his struggles coming to terms with his daughter's disappearance. There's been no sign of Stacy Peterson since she vanished four years ago today, but her family believes the police are still working hard to find her, and the husband they suspect harmed her remains in jail on a murder charge.
On Oct. 18, Stacy and Drew Peterson would have been able to celebrate their eighth wedding anniversary together, maybe slipping off on a romantic Caribbean getaway as they had in the past.
