Confessions of a Mom Pleading For Advice: Mom Talk

Erin asks mothers the eternal question.

OK, all you Moms. Listen up. I need advice, please. Please! Our only son, Liam, now 16 months, is at That Age. He has been walking since last July, which means he's been practicing for half his life now. In fact, he has spent these last eight months growing wings on his feet. He is at That Age when he has no boundaries. He is curious about everything and faster than lightning. Sized within the 10-15 percentiles for height and weight, he is low and quick. In addition to speed, he has a strong grip. His go-go-Gadget arms, allow him to reach disproportional lengths. No counter is high enough. No trouble is far enough. For example, while at my girlfriend's house (which no longer needs baby-proofing), Liam got away from me. Together, he and I …

Kathy, Your approach sounds great! I would say no no & take them away from that certain area or object, they eventually got it. I wasn't into spanking because i felt they are a child & learning. I also was not into time outs, not sure why, I just don't have a feel for those. After all that being said I have a question for you. How do you get anything done? What Do You Do When You Get Sick?

Dawn: Good article...one all mom's encounter. The only one thing that was missing was the fact that usually mommy catches those lovely things from their kids. Not asthma, that is a given gift to you, but flu like symptoms...check how many kids were sick in your childs classroom...It is a given...Mom catches most things from her kidss. Aren't we lucky?????   more ›

On the Road with a Retching Kid: Moms Talk

Here is one mom's advice on what to do on a lengthy road trip with a violently ill child.

Moms Talk is a new Wednesday feature on Shorewood-il.Patch.com to reach out to moms and families. You are invited to participate by asking questions and making comments in the section below each story. This will be an ongoing dialogue for parents and grandparents just like you. Be sure to check back regularly to read how other Wise Council moms have responded to your ideas. This week's topic starts with a personal story about a really ugly car scene. My husband, toddler and I were driving back from a holiday visit in Kansas when our 14-month-old got sick. Ordinarily, he is a pretty easy going kid, so we didn't notice any symptoms that he wasn't feeling well. Then all of a sudden, as we were trying to pay our bill at a restaurant in Iowa …
