Brand New Year Shorewood Rewind

It's a new year, but let's look at the old week.

Happy New Year! If you're reading this in Shorewood, odds are you're already happy. But you can never be too happy. So every bit of cheer helps. At any rate, here we are in 2012. It's a brand new year. But before we get to carried away with making it the best year ever, let's take one more look at the final week of 2011. Why look back? Good question. And we have a good answer: Because it was a fantastic week. All sorts of amazing things happened, as they usually do in Shorewood. So let's take a last look at it and all the great things before we let it go forever and bravely move off to enjoy 52 more wonderful weeks in 2012. White Christmas Gives Way to Wet New Year's Eve

Wildly fluctuating temperatures are unusual, according to the National Weather Service, but no cause for alarm.

It went from a white Christmas to a wet New Year's Eve. In less than a week, kids went from riding snowboards down Shorewood hills to rolling skateboards down wet sidewalks as frigid temperatures spiked into Springtime climes, ice turned to slush, and snow flakes melted into raindrops. Despite the drastic change in temperature between the two holidays, and the balmy temperatures on a stormy New Year's Eve, the weather really isn't that much out of the ordinary. "I don't want to say it's never happened before," Amy Seeley, a National Weather Service meteorologist working out of the weather station at the Lewis University Airport in Romeoville, said of the extreme weather fluctuations between Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
