Shorewood Cops Capture Man Allegedly Driving Without Insurance

Another allegedly uninsured driver was taken off the streets.

A local man dared to tool around the roads of Shorewood without liability insurance, police said. And on top of that, this same Shorewood man was not even wearing his seat belt, police said. The man—24-year-old Bryan Schulz of 703 Vertin Blvd.—was arrested during a Monday morning traffic stop in the 100 block of East Jefferson Street. Schulz was pulled over shortly before 7:30 a.m. and taken into custody on charges of driving without insurance, failing to wear a seat belt, driving while license suspended, and operating a vehicle without seat belts. Police said an officer noticed Schulz wasn't wearing his seat belt, and that this is what ended up getting him pulled over. Schulz was released from custody after posting bond.

This is the first Shorewood police blotter I have seen in atleast 6 months. Does that mean they stopped reporting arrests to the Patch? Or is it that this is the only person they arrested in that time? Either way I guess it is nice to see something actually Shorewood related on the Shorewood Patch. If it wasn't for the title saying Shorewood you would think this was the Joliet Patch.   more ›

Vaughn's Blood Found on His Wife's Clothes, Seat Belt, DNA Expert Testifies

Blood from both spouses found on Kimberly Vaughn's seat belt, which may have been unlatched after her death, could be a blow to the defense.

Drops of Christopher Vaughn's blood were found on his wife's shirt, shorts and the floorboard near her feet, a DNA specialist testified Friday. And drops of Kimberly Vaughn's blood were found on her husband's jacket, Illinois State Police forensic scientist Kelly Krajnik said. Taken alone or together, both seem to contradict Christopher Vaughn's story that his wife, perhaps angered by his alleged infidelity, shot him in the wrist and thigh as he sat in the driver's seat of their SUV and then -- after he fled the scene -- shot herself and their children. Perhaps just as damaging to Vaughn's defense was evidence Krajnik presented about blood from both Christopher and Kimberly Vaughn being found on the seat belt and buckle on Kimberly Vaughn'…

Neither one had a drivers license. Neither one was smart enough to wear a selt belt. Neither one should have been on the road. I still don't understand the poor comments towards the Plainfield and Shorewood police departments. If they run your plates and they come back as no license - they are idiots behind the wheel of a car. There is a very good reason they had the license suspended in the …   more ›
