Jennie Cisna Mills, director of Shorewood-Troy Library, outlines how bonds will be sold and paid off over 20-25 years to build a new library if residents support a tax increase.
In the spring edition of "Reading Between the Lines," a publicatoin for patrons of the library, Shorewood-Troy Public Library director Jennie Cisna Mills answers the question, "Why a new library building?" Residents will be asked to vote on a proposed tax increase to build the library on April 9. The cost of the new library is estimated at $21 million. "We estimate that for the average home in Shorewood the cost would be about $20 a month—less than a hardback book, half the cost of a video game, much less than the cost of having the internet in your home," Cisna Mills said in her "From the Director" letter. She said she will be happy to answer questions. Call her at 815-725-1715.

Board meets on Thursday and is likely to vote on whether or not to ask voters for a tax increase.
The Shorewood-Troy Library has spend the past few months getting input from the public on what they would like to see in a new building. They have outgrown their current space and have been working to purchase about 5 acres near Shorewood Village Hall. But, the library only has enough cash in reserve to buy the land. To build on it, they have to turn to voters. On Thursday night, the Shorewood-Troy Library Board of Trustees will vote on whether or not they want to ask voters for a referendum to pay to build a new building on the land. Library director Jenni Mills told Patch back in April that the library knew that at some point they were going to have to ask voters for help. In December, the library was still hosting meetings so residents …

Shorewood-Troy Library turns to the residents for thoughts on a potential new building.
About 50 people turned out to Shorewood-Troy Library Dec. 3 to weigh in on the possibility of a whole new library building. "They were really just trying to get a feel for if they would like the building and how the building would work for them,"Jennie Mills, library executive director said. The library district is already under contract to purchase the 5 acres they intend to build on, land which is out by the newly-constructed village hall. As we reported in April, the library district has outgrown its current space. "We don’t have enough room for (book) collections," Mills said at the time.
