Post Office: Please Clear Route for Carriers

Snow and ice make mail delivery slow and dangerous, said Chuck Keeney, Romeoville postmaster/officer-in-charge.

This article was provided by the U.S. Postal Service: With a snow and ice expected to blanket the region during the next couple days, one seasonal tool is expected to make its return at homes and businesses – the shovel. To help letter carriers deliver mail, the Postal Service is asking customers to clear snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs and mailboxes.  “Snow and ice make delivery dangerous and slow,” said Romeoville Postmaster/Officer-in-Charge Chuck Keeney. “Maintaining a clear path to the mail box – including steps, porches, walkways and street approach – will help letter carriers maintain consistent delivery service and help them get those cards and packages delivered in time for the holidays.”  Customers receiving door delivery …

Price of U.S. Stamps Going Up on Jan. 27

The increase is a penny per stamp -- from 45 to 46 cents -- and 20 cents for a standard book of 20 stamps.

The cost to mail a letter is set to rise slightly later this month, after rate changes go into effect Jan. 27, according to the U.S. Postal Service. First-class U.S. stamp prices, will increase one cent, from 45 cents to 46 cents, to mail one-ounce letters. This brings the cost of a standard 20-stamp book up from $9 to $9.20.   Forever stamps, purchased for 45 cents before the price hike, are always good for mailing a one-ounce letter anytime in the future regardless of price changes, according to the U.S. Postal Service.    The cost for letters weighing more than one ounce will stay the same, at 20 cents for each additional ounce, according to a postal service announcement.
