Snow Predicted for Shorewood Area

The National Weather Service says up to three inches of snow could fall Thursday night.

The National Weather Service in Romeoville is predicting accumulating snow Thursday night into Friday Morning for the Joliet area. The forecast estimates up to three inches of snow. "A fast-moving weather system will bring a period of snow to the area from later tonight into Friday morning," The National Weather Service said in a written release. "Snow will develop from west to east after midnight and taper off from the west early to mid-Friday morning." The areas cold temperatures, lows tonight are predicted to hover around 17 degrees, will mean the snow that falls will likely remain on the ground. Those conditions mean that roads will be slippery. Officials: Now's the Time to Plan for Winter Weather

This is Winter Storm Preparedness Month — takes steps now to be safe, and prepare your home to guard against weather damage such as ice dams.

Winter is nearly here, and in the Midwest, that can mean anything from mild conditions and little snow to Arctic blasts and accumulations of more than a foot. Regardless, experts say there is a good chance we will experience extreme winter weather sometime this the season, and they are urging residents to prepare now. Weather Advance Storm Center is predicting a much colder than average winter and some snow in the Chicago area and the upper Midwest. Severe winter weather can cause power outages, create dangerous driving conditions, not to mention dangerous wind-chill conditions.
