Shorewood Squad Ends Up in Plainfield Ditch Following High-Speed Chase
Despite the accident, the officers were able to apprehend the retail theft suspect.
A retail theft suspect was in custody Sunday night following a high-speed chase that ended with a Shorewood police car in a ditch at Route 59 and 143rd Street in Plainfield. The incident began shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday, when Shorewood police were called to the CVS store at 1155 W. Jefferson St. on an alleged retail theft case, Shorewood Sgt. Jason Barten said. As officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, whose identity was not revealed, he broke free, injuring one of the officers and fleeing in a car, Barten said.
