Hundreds Celebrate, Donate Toys During Party at Timbers of Shorewood

Toys were collected for the Mark Staehely Pediatric Cancer Foundation, dedicated to raising funds and awareness for research into new treatments and cures for pediatric cancers.

The ninth annual “Santa and the Timbers’ Elves” holiday party Dec. 8 drew in a crowd of nearly 500 residents and members of the public at the Timbers of Shorewood retirement community, 1100 N. River Road. Together they collected and donated more than 100 unwrapped toys for the Mark Staehely Pediatric Cancer Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for research into new treatments and cures for pediatric cancers. Santa and the Timbers' Elves Christmas Party this Saturday

The annual Santa and the Timbers’ Elves Christmas Party features free photos with Santa, draft horses for hay rides, live reindeer, a petting zoo, Christmas carols, Chuckles the clown, caricature artists, magicians, cider, cookies and other refreshments.

Santa Claus will listen to children’s wishes and pose for photos at the 9th Annual Timbers’ holiday event, “Santa and the Timbers’ Elves,” from 1 – 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at The Timbers of Shorewood Retirement Community, 1100 N. River Rd. This event is free and has become a favorite holiday festival for the entire community. The Timbers has partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Shorewood to bring the 9th annual Santa and the Timbers’ Elves celebration to residents and the public. Giving Back: Animal Walk, Special Olympics, Friends of the Library and More

Those interested in giving back to the community will have plenty of chances to do so in the near future. Below, check out a list of upcoming volunteer and fundraising opportunities.

WHAT: Run 4 Ronald Fun Run WHEN: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29. Race-day registration will begin at 9 a.m., with the race set to start at 1 p.m. Games will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. WHERE: Beecher Community Park, 901 Game Farm Road, Yorkville WHY GO? The one-mile fun run will include costume judging, hair feathering, a bounce house, face painting, raffles and games. Additionally, all profits gained from the event will benefit the Ronald McDonald Family Room in Edward Hospital. NEED TO KNOW: Game tickets will be available for purchase after the race, which will be held rain or shine.
