Over 30 workshops of this kind have been held throughout Illinois as an initiative of The State of Illinois’ Mortgage Relief Project (MRP).

MRP is a part of the Illinois Foreclosure Prevention Network and is dedicated to providing information and resources that can help homeowners take advantage of programs to lower their mortgages, avoid foreclosure and keep their homes.

MRP also provides information on legal rights, credit counseling and avoiding scam artists. In addition, homeowners can also take advantage of private, one-on-one housing counseling with HUD-certified counselors during the workshop.

“I am pleased that The Illinois Mortgage Relief Project is able to provide these services to the people of Illinois,” said Sen. Bertino-Tarrant.  “The recession has affected everyone and it is important for people to get the information needed to help keep them in their homes during these difficult times.”

The Illinois Foreclosure Prevention Network coordinates this effort with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the Illinois Department of Employment Security in order to provide a vast array of resources available at these workshops.

Homeowners interested in attending the event should bring the following documentation in order for IMRP to best serve them:

• Budget of household expenses
• Documentation of other income
• 2 months of recent bank statements
• Recent Utility Bill
• Profit/Loss, if self-employed (last 6 months)
• Mortgage Statement
• 2010 & 2011 W-2 & tax return with all schedules
• Copy of rental agreement, if necessary
• 2 months of recent paystubs
