Woman Busted for Using Pepper Spray on 2 Children, Police Say

Shaniqua Pruitt was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child.

A Joliet woman who doused two children with pepper spray because their mother was dating her ex-boyfriend was arrested on a warrant Friday night, Joliet police said.

Shaniqua D. Pruitt, 21, of 366 N. Broadway, is accused of going to the home of her perceived romantic rival on Oct. 19, Cmdr. Al Roechner said. When the woman answered the door, accompanied by her 2- and 5-year-old daughters, Pruitt allegedly shot pepper spray in their faces and then fled, he said.

An investigation was conducted and the woman was able identify Pruitt through a photo lineup, Roechner said.

A warrant was issued, and Pruitt arrested on charges of aggravated battery to a child under the age of 13. She is being held in the Will County jail on $5,000 bond for that incident and $500 bond for an unrelated battery case.
