Police Blotter: Shorewood Cops Battle the Scourge of Broken Taillights, License Plate Lights

The Shorewood police continued to fight crime and stand up to the miscreants driving about with malfunctioning license plate lights and taillights

Cops save public from driver with no license plate light

A Shorewood police officer nabbed a Joliet man who was driving without an operational rear license plate light on his car.

Not only that, but it turned out Jose Sosme, 20, of 2355 White Birch Lane was also driving with a suspended license, police said.

The officer pulled Sosme over near the intersection of Jefferson Street and Houbolt Road shortly after 9 p.m.

Cops: Lane usage improper, driving under influence

A Plainfield man caught a driving under the the influence charge when a cop reportedly spotted him using traffic lanes in an improper manner.

Anthony Collins, 27, of 1508 Green Trails Drive was pulled over shortly after 3 a.m. near the corner of Hamilton Drive and Vertin Boulevard.

Domestic battery

A local man was jailed on a domestic battery charge the day after an incident at his residence.

Mark Figura, 52, of 501 Bethany Drive was taken into custody about 12:15 p.m.

As usual, the Shorewood Police Department was rather inscrutable about the matter.

Alleged harasser brought to justice

The police claim to have tracked down a Minooka woman they say was involved in some sort of unexplained "harassment through electronic communications."

The police picked up Ashley Zawojski, 26, of 709 Camden Drive about 9:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Butterfield Circle West and booked her on the harassment charge.

Zamjowski was supposedly using a cell phone to harass some unidentified person.

Would-be kidnapper fails

A woman tried to lure a young boy into her sport utility vehicle in the Camelot subdivision just south of Shorewood.

The mother of a 9-year-old told the sheriff's police that her son was standing in the front yard of their home in the 22000 block of South Knyghtwood Drive about 8 a.m., waiting for his school bus to arrive.

While he was waiting, a woman pulled up and shouted for him to get in her car, police said.

Frightened, the boy ran into his house to tell his mother. The mother reportedly said she looked out her front door and noticed a small, blue SUV turning east onto Camelot Road.

Another woman reportedly told the police she noticed the boy playing in the snow when the blue SUV drove up on him. The woman said the driver of the SUV, a white woman of about 30 years old with short blond hair, shouted something out her window to the boy.

The woman reportedly told police she then looked on as the boy ran into his house.

Feb. 9

Taillightless

A local man dared to drive without taillights and his brazen behavior bought him a charge of driving under the influence, police said.

Michael Kramer, 42, of 302 Greenfield Road was stopped and arrested about 10:15 p.m. near the corner of Jefferson Street and Robin Hill Drive.

Cops: Copper copped

Burglars busted into the basement of a house in the 1000 block of Breckenridge Lane and stole copper from the basement.

The police did not reveal how much copper was filched in the break-in.

Another day, another broken taillight

A sharp-eyed cop caught yet another motorist driving around with a broken taillight and ended up arresting a Romeoville man on a charge of possession of drug equipment.

Charles Howard, 33, of 1712 Raleigh Trail had the misfortune of riding in a car with a broken taillight that got pulled over about 3:30 a.m. on the Interstate 55 Frontage Road at Deer Run Drive.

During the stop, the cops claim the caught Howard possessing drug equipment.

The police did not reveal what kind of drug equipment Howard allegedly possessed.

Seatbelt scofflaw

Never underestimate the importance of wearing your seatbelt — you leave it unbuckled and you run the risk of the Shorewood cops pulling you over.

It's especially dangerous if you're carrying marijuana, like the police said 24-year-old Derek Crase of 705 Dover Way was doing when he was stopped about 2:20 p.m. near the corner of Baskin Drive and Black Road.

Crase was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis.
