Shorewood's New Village Administrator to be Picked From Six

The Shorewood Village Board will interview six finalists for the vacant village administrator's position.

The four-month search for a new Shorewood Village Administrator may end this weekend when trustees interview six finalists for the job.

"We're going to interview six candidates out of the total of 100," Mayor Rick Chapman said of the village board's plans for Saturday.

The next day, Chapman said, two or three of those six will return for a second round of interviews.

"It's such an important decision for the people of that we need to be as accurarate as we can be," Chapman said.

Shorewood has been without a village administrator since Kurt Carroll quit in May to go work for the town of New Lenox.

New Lenox also lured away Shorewood Economic Development Director Nancy Roman, who is moving to Texas but said she will "commute" to her Illinois job three times a month.

Several weeks after Carroll left town, the village agreed to pay the Deerfield firm Vorhees Associates LLC up to $22,000 to compile a list of suitable candidates to take his job.

The nationwide search was winnowed down to the six invited to village hall this weekend.

Chapman said the interview process will be intense due in part to the board's unfamiliarity with some — if not all — of the candidates.

"We're going after people that we don't know," he said, adding, "It would be fair to say at least one person is out of state."

Chapman declined to identify any of the six finalists out of consideration for their privacy, particularly with regard to their current employment situations.

If the interview process goes well, the chosen candidate might be offered the job as early as Monday, the mayor said.
