Ticket Takes Troy's First Ever Fire Trustee Election

The five-man ticket takes all five spots in Troy Townships historic fire trustee election.

Bob Robinson just had to knock off one of the five men running against him for the five spots on the Troy Township Fire Protection District Board of Trustees. He missed by less than 225 votes.

Robinson had an uphill battle running as an independent against a bloc of candidates, and that hill ended up being too high.

The five-man ticket took all five spots, with top vote-getter John Theobald leading the way with 1,192. He was followed by Roger Barrowman who claimed 1,182, George Muentnich with 1,176, Robert Schwartz with 1169, and fifth-place finisher John Scheidt, who had 1,075. Robinson got 851.

This was the first ever fire protection trustee election for Troy Township.

Prior to Tuesday, the trustees were appointed by the county executive. But a referendum passed in the February 2010 election put that power in the voters' hands.

Another referendum in the same election boosted the number of trustees from three to five. The additional two were appointed and all five went up for grabs Tuesday.

Robinson said it was not in the township's best interest to have a united bloc on the fire protection district board.
