Rescue Dog Lost in Shorewood Area

Finn, a Brittany spaniel foster dog, was on his way to a new home and family in Canada when he got lost in Joliet and is now thought to be roaming the area, far from anything familiar or dear.

Finn's foster mother, Susan Hennis of Normal, has put out a call for help to the residents of Shorewood and surrounding towns.

Hennis had handed Finn off for the second leg of his long journey to a Toronto suburb. As he was being transferred to a different vehicle in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel in Joliet for the third leg on March 31, he got loose and ran away.

"Since that time he has been seen all over Joliet," Hennis, the Illinois co-coordinator of the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network, said in an email.

"He then made his way to the mall and (then) Shorewood," Hennis said. "We have not had sightings since last Saturday. We think he is following the I&M canal and/or the river."

Finn is a friendly dog but has proven elusive due to his anxiety over being in a strange place.

"Finn is very affectionate but also very scared," Hennis said. "We are trying to catch him and have had numerous wonderful volunteers helping us."

And if altruism isn't enough to get you out looking for Finn, maybe $400 is.

"There is a $400 reward for Finn's safe return," said Hennis, who also noted, "We hope to get to a point where he is comfortable in an area, begins to trust and we can then work on how we can catch him. We don't want anyone to chase him."

A Facebook page has been set up to get out more information on Finn and a flier has been created.
